[Junpei doesn't have any reason to believe he's not asleep, even if he feels weirdly lucid for it. The scenery is obviously pretty dreamlike, so he's not particularly concerned about where he is or why he's there.
What's catching his interest instead is the grid materializing out of the mist in front of him, six feet by six feet but divided evenly into 9x9 rows and columns of boxes. He holds his chin with one robotic hand while a handful of squares fill in with numbers.
It's a goddamn motherfuckin' sudoku. Junpei looks at it a while, and when the numbers don't shift as they might in a normal dream, touches a square. It fills in with a 5.]
Wonder if it's actually solvable. Can I seriously do this in my sleep, now?
TWO - I Thought Creepers Referred to Vines, not Trees
[He's not surprised when Akane shows up. He's a little surprised when she shows up as a twelve-year-old, but honestly, that checks out. Junpei walks with her in companionable conversation, helping her over roots that might catch her boots in the dark and reminiscing about old memories.
It's Akane who first notices the Wanderwoods, well. Wandering.]
Junpei...
[She tugs his sleeve, looking back, so Junpei looks, too.]
What is it? [But she doesn't have to tell him out loud.] The trees.
[Alert now, he walks on with her, keeping her close, and as soon as he hears the creak of bark and the rustling of leaves he grabs Akane up and runs as she cries out, frightened by the grabbing leaves.]
