TEST DRIVE - BELLMARE MOUNTAINS
Hello and welcome to Phantasmal Rift's Test Drive Meme!
Test drive threads are assumed to be game canon for accepted characters unless otherwise noted, so don't feel like you'll have to introduce yourself a second time to everyone you meet! As an added bonus, participation in the test drive comes with the chance to earn up to two items of loot for your trouble! Characters who are accepted can earn one item for having a top level, and one for tagging out to someone else's top level! Your SWEET LOOT will be included with your acceptance notice.
Additionally, characters currently in game can earn themselves a piece of bonus loot for the dungeon by tagging people's top-levels on the test drive! Existing characters get their bonus loot along with the rest of their loot at the conclusion of the dungeon.
This test drive takes place in the Bellmare Mountain range, a chilly environment even when it's not locked in the dead of winter. Considering that November is just starting to bite - or is it, with the Fissure's time-displacement effect in place? - that makes for an extremely chilly reception for all of the new arrivals. If you're a person at risk of frostbite, you'd better hunker down in one of the scattered mountain cabins or find someone with extra snow gear, and quick.
Once you're a bit more warmed up, exploration of the area will reveal that it's largely abandoned, but there's still some evidence of past human habitation. Old chair lifts stand guard over untouched ski slopes, the remains of what was once a resort, and a handful of hiking paths twist back and forth through the mountain forests, the snow melting off them due to the magical crystals in the gravel that lines the paths.
LET IT SNOW
Chances are that, upon arriving, you find yourself outside in the snowfall. Hopefully you weren't from somewhere too terribly warm, but chances are that unless you were specifically in a cold environment before, you're going to be feeling the chill now. (Unless, of course, you're not human and don't get bothered by the cold. That happens.)
Fortunately, there are plenty of paths scattered around that are warm enough to keep the snow melted off of them - it shouldn't be that hard to stumble across one. The question then becomes, which way to shelter and civilization? You'll have to take a bit of a gamble, but it's almost certainly better than staying where you are and freezing.
LOCKED IN
How fortunate, then, that you were able to find shelter against the cold - at least for the time being. The wooden cabin is the exact opposite of luxury, but there's a bed and wood to make a fire in the fireplace, so you can't ask for terribly much else. Especially once night falls - or when the snow outside begins to fall in more than flurries - it's far better to be outside than in. Even if you can't figure out how to start the fire, the dimly glowing crystals that serve as fire starter will at least keep your hands warm.
Of course, with only a limited amount of shelter to go around in these mountain trails, it's fairly inevitable that you would have to share with someone... Hope they're friendly, otherwise this place is going to get awkward fast.
FROSTY THE - OH, MAN!
And if you're still running around outside, sooner or later you're almost certain to run into a deep patch of snow that rises up to meet you. These giant snowmen, ten feet tall and aggressive, stand up in response to anything that isn't the local wildlife approaching - and their goal is quite simple. Better watch out, because these guys are your own personal avalanche, seeking to bury you under themselves until either the cold or the weight saps the life out of you.
One's dangerous, but it's not uncommon to find them in groups of 3-5, either, which is where things start getting to be a problem. Luckily, it's possible to melt them down to nothing, or just blast them apart with pure force - the scattered snow won't rise again, at least not any time soon.

He stumbles back a little from the release... But he's not running. No, he'll take a step forwards as he slides one strap of his backpack off his shoulder and digs around in there for... A notebook and a pencil?
With a nervous nod as he shrugs the backpack back on his shoulder, he flips to a blank page and starts jotting down something. Every now and then he looks up at Maki, knowing she shouldn't be out in the cold like that for so long...]

For the time being, Maki is content in watching him as he takes out the notebook and pencil from his backpack. Considering he hasn't really said a word and yet was going to explain things, it made sense to have to write things down so she'd be patient and wait until he was done.
Even if the cold was starting to really sink in with how long she's been standing here, the discomfort of it doesn't really show on her face entirely. It's something she can handle for a bit longer, at least. ]

Harukawa-san, if you need proof it's really me, can I remind you about the time Hoshi-kun volunteered to be the first victim before the time limit was up, and we talked him out of it? Pretty sure that's one of the last things I did before I tried to stop the mastermind.
IDK how I got revived, but another group calling themselves "The Administration" dragged me to Fayflower University for their version of a killing game. Memory wipe and all. I got most of them back, along with some old memories that got knocked loose, but while I survived I did something pretty stupid that basically made me lose my voice.
I'll go into detail when we get out of the cold. I think I saw a cabin around here, maybe we should check it out.

Red eyes scanned over the words quietly with something akin to understanding briefly flashing across her face. If he could speak of that time with Ryoma so easily, it had to be him since noone else but those stuck in that school at the time would have known that happened. ]
Yeah, it was. That's proof enough.
[ That should tell him where she was at the moment in terms of reading, finally reaching the part where he'd been revived and forced to go through another killing game. Maki's expression turned a bit darker at that point, leaving her fairly silent for some time after as she thought everything over. ]
Right. Let's go, then.
[ She carefully shut the notebook and handed it back to him afterward, something guarded about the expression she wore on her face just then. Waiting for him to lead the way. ]
I can tell you about what happened after your death, if you want to hear it.
Going into major DRV3 spoilers and I guess the Locked In prompt
At least he's proven to her he's real. He put the notebook under his arm, as ready to go as he could be, when Maki offers to fill him in on what else happened...
There's a moment of hesitance. That's right... He's no AI. He doesn't know who killed him, and frankly he isn't sure he wants to know. Though, if he's going to tell her everything that happened in Fayflower- how he lost his voice, who he met in there, what he learned from another SHSL, his actual talent- then it's only fair that she tells him everything too. Besides, it's not like he has much of a chance to go home now...
With a somber smile, he nods at her proposal before motioning her to follow. He's headed for one of the heated paths, it should lead to the cabin.]

There was something reluctant and quiet in her expression for a second after witnessing that somber smile on his face but chose not to comment on it. After all. It wasn't her place to pry. All she was doing was just intending to fill him in on things and it would come after he'd explained himself so that wouldn't come right away.
She just nodded and made to follow after him without so much as another word. ]

After spending some time walking along the path, they came across a small cabin in the middle of the snow. Rantaro was the first to knock, just to be sure.
He cracked the door open wide enough to poke his head through... Yep, no one's home. Figures, the whole place was as abandoned as the others... But it doesn't hurt to check.
He opens the door all the way and holds it open for Maki. Ladies first.]
