...No one can live being entirely selfless or entirely self-centered. It just doesn't work. I made a mistake thinking I could be the former. It cost me agonizing pain, my health, my sanity, my mortality. It twisted me into the latter for endless centuries.

I don't give a damn about the world at large anymore. If one should fall to pieces, I'll find another with the people who truly matter to me. All the rest is no longer my responsibility to bear.
