TEST DRIVE 006

Hello and welcome to Phantasmal Rift's Test Drive Meme!

Test drive threads are assumed to be game canon for accepted characters unless otherwise noted, so don't feel like you'll have to introduce yourself a second time to everyone you meet! As an added bonus, participation in the test drive comes with the chance to earn up to two items of loot for your trouble! Characters who are accepted can earn one item for having a top level, and one for tagging out to someone else's top level! Your SWEET LOOT will be included with your acceptance notice.

Additionally, characters currently in game can earn themselves a piece of bonus loot for the dungeon by tagging people's top-levels on the test drive! Existing characters get their bonus loot along with the rest of their loot at the conclusion of the dungeon.

This test drive takes place in the Telovia Mines, an extremely abandoned magical crystal mine and the town and infrastructure that one supported it. The tunnels are in reasonably good condition and would be reasonably navigable... Except for one thing.

ONE MINOR THING

The magical effects of the Fissure cause those within it to lose something when they arrive - for most people, it's a sense such as touch or hearing, but it's also possible to lose a more esoteric sense (such as your sense of balance or temperature, but NOT things like "sense of morals" or "sense of style"), the ability to speak, or the ability to recognize faces. As a general guideline, whatever characters lose should be non-supernatural in nature, and something they would have taken for granted as a part of their ability to function.

ODDS AND ENDS

Just because the mines are empty of people doesn't mean that they've gone still. While for the most part, the carts full of crystals remain in one place, the huge amount of magic has left more than a few of the miners' abandoned tools still going through their motions. Rusted pickaxes swing at the walls, and dead lanterns swing from the ceiling. Crystals occasionally free themselves from shards of rock to pile into bins, which then empty into already-overflowing mine carts.

As long as you leave them to their jobs, everything will be fine. If you try to stop the tools (and it is the tools themselves, for anyone who might be looking for ghosts) from doing their jobs, they'll chase you down until you leave their general vicinity.

Of course, the eternally working tools don't care much about the structural integrity of the mine tunnels...

THEY ALL PILE UP

...And so, inevitably, there are cave-ins.

Most of them are fairly minor, and you can see them (well, if you can see) enough to just work around them. Some of them are big enough that you're going to have to dig through them first, if you can.

And then there's the handful that block passages entirely. But don't panic! The tunnels are designed around the possibility of this happening - rather than coming to an end, the majority of them loop back around to the main arteries of the mine.

E... ventually...

But you and whoever is stuck with you on this side of the cave-in might be wandering for quite a while before you get there. Hopefully one of you still has a sense of direction, assuming either of you ever had one in the first place.

3- Sorry not sorry

[It's startling enough with the clash and crunch of stone but to suddenly have someone on top of him has Talcott on high alert, immediately. Genesis hisses from a familiar ache and abruptly will find that if he tries to draw in too deep a breath following that hiss he'll be pressing against a small, dangerously sharp blade pressed to his belly.

It takes a moment for Tal's eyes to adjust to the sudden darkness and that only serves to make him more afraid. Glowing eyes and a single outstretched wing and all he can think is that this man is already taken by the Scourge. Halfway to becoming a daemon in his own right.

But then he speaks and it takes a moment for Talcott to push down the panic and recognize the words for what they are. Even then he doesn't answer the question.]

Get off me.

[Fortunately for Genesis' innards, he's wearing the SOLDIER uniform, which includes a nice, heavy belt to protect his vitals. Still, the presence of weaponry is...oddly reassuring. At least not everyone is prepared to just wander heedlessly into danger here.

He stands slowly and smoothly, ignoring the ache with long practice, and takes a graceful step away as he brushes dust from his long jacket before running one hand through his hair to neaten it. Genesis' wing flicks aside as well, first folding against his back and then somehow simply seeming to vanish back into his shoulder.

The glowing eyes, however, don't change.]

I suppose that I should apparently offer some form of apology for laying hands upon you to keep you uninjured, then?

[Talcott is quick to get to his feet, the motion practiced and efficient, though far less graceful than Genesis. Still he keeps his eyes on the other man, knife in hand and now repositioned properly for the small throwing knife it is. They're really not meant for stabbing. ]

Identify yourself.

[The wing vanishes so he is clearly not a daemon, as Tal had first feared but he is something inhuman. An SCP of some variety but what class? Was he a danger or... He's not sure if he's expecting a name or a classification number, honestly.]

[Genesis still isn't particularly bothered. After all, he still has Rapier sheathed at his waist (which might make things worse considering what it sort of looks like), and though there's not as much room down here as he'd like, it's been a long time since he's needed to worry about deflecting throwing knives when bullets don't even phase him.]

I am Genesis Rhapsodos, SOLDIER First Class.

[And then entirely out of snark, he sweeps a dramatic bow, coat flaring and swirling in the dust of the rock fall. Despite the move, his eyes never leave Talcott's.]

Might I have your name in return, then?

[Between the theatrics and the coat he can't help thinking of Ren, rolling his eyes a little. Really?]

Talcott Hester. [SOLDIER? That sounded significant, familiar even, if only vaguely. Hmm... Wait... he's, probably another Final Fantasy, isn't he? Genesis certainly sounds like a name Square Enix would come up with. And the wing thing seems like a pretty telling motif too.]

I was on a mission when I showed up here. I- [He finally sighs a little, letting the tension bleed out of him.] Sorry I'm a little on edge.
heroofdawn: (Little smile)

[Oh, you have no idea how bad the theatrics get. At least he hasn't started quoting poetry. Yet.

Still, he simply nods to Talcott in acknowledgement, not particularly bothered by the tension displayed.]

I imagine that anyone ripped from their lives into another realm would be fully justified in being at least somewhat irritated. Especially when it is the second time, as has apparently happened to me.

Second time for me too.

[A heavy sigh, too put upon for his age. As long as they don't end up being instructed to kill each other every week he'll be fine.

Hopefully.]

It wasn't a willing cross over on your end then?
