Aiden brought back, for a minute, a deep, terrible fear that the safety Mai feels in other worlds isn't warranted. Even if it was a misunderstanding, she's being more cautious again with who she allows to see her using her abilities, and forget trying to get herself to consider healing again. That'll require some work to get her back on track. Aside from that, though, Mai does find Aiden to be a good, if conflicted, person and there's died-in-case-1 solidarity there that she doesn't really have with anyone else (okay, there's Yuuri, but that's different).
