Aside from the initial "animal" reaction, Mai is mostly silently observing Shido. She knows he was a terrible person who realized what he did was wrong and had a breakdown, and she knows he has major issues and a messed-up family, but she's not really judging so much as keeping watch in case anything happens because of their problems. CAH with him is kind of fun.
