How's The Game?

Well, hello there, PhanRift! Welcome to our second How's the Game post!

How's The Game is an open forum for discussion about the current state of the game and where it may go, heading forwards. For mods, this is a place for us to make you guys aware of any changes to the game that are on the table and to hear your thoughts on them. For players, this is a chance for you guys to give us feedback on how the game is going!

Please keep in mind that this is not a HMD meme and this post should not be used as a forum for critiquing specific players or characters. We trust you guys to keep things civil but please be aware that any out of hand conduct will be frozen.

The mods will have a list of toplevels below, covering topics we want to raise with you guys, but the rest of the post is a total free for all!

This seems to me like a good solution, along with the conversion to gacha pulls.

This would be a good place to link to the "Gacha Suggestions" post since we will need more stuff on it. Are we encouraged to put things from canons on here, like you would in a moidahgame?

We previously had a loot suggestions channel on Discord, but unfortunately it wasn't seeing much use from a mod side of things – it sort of ended up turning into more of a cursed item repository rather than a list of things that could fit into the loot pool as stands. We still take ideas and suggestions for loot but we don't have a dedicated channel for it anymore.

On that note though, we actually encourage players away from suggesting loot items that are explicitly from existing canons, for the sake of not accidentally canon puncturing a character who might join the game later down the line. In murdergames, canon-specific drops are pulled from each individual player's regain list and those already have a dedicated entry in the loot table.

Does the canon-specific entry on our loot table allow people to gatcha loot from other characters' canons at this point, though? I've always been unclear on that.

If you're worried about gatcha loot canon puncturing characters, it might be a good compromise to allow people to give (probably a limited number of) suggestions of common/generic/readily available goods from their own canons that can be added to the appropriate parts of the loot table? There's a difference between "you find an action figure of someone who absolutely would not have toys made of them in canon" and "you find an action figure that's canonically shown to be available and popular in-universe" or "you find a five pound bag of canon-specific dietary staple."

It does not! Currently, to give you a peek behind the curtain, there are a handful of entries in the loot table that are simply designated "CHARACTER SPECIFIC LOOT". If a character rolls one of these, they will receive an item associated with them/their canon. So a character will only ever get something that "belongs" to them as opposed to having someone else's things dropped into their lap.

Another reason we'd rather not add canon specific loot to the pools is just a case of – well, which canons? It feels a bit like a can of worms waiting to be opened since we can't add things from every single canon in game but it would be unfair to leave people out.

And finally, there is already an avenue for people to obtain items from their canons – points! Adding canon specific items to the loot roll would remove the incentive for people to buy them back on the points page.
