Hello, and welcome to Phantasmal Rift! This post serves as our OOC intro post as well as a CR meme and general game update post!

GAME UPDATES:

SETTING: Nothing new here! Since the game's only just opened, you don't have any new setting pages to explore. But if you haven't yet, be sure to check out the Keystone Station page for all the info on the station itself, as well as the Housing Page to find out about your characters' living situation!

DUNGEONS: This month's dungeon will be the Keystone Shoreline! More information will come later in the month, but there's quite a bit more to it than the beach you explored on the test drive...

CALENDAR: The Game Calendar is currently up to date through the first week of May! This part of the game updates also comes with a poll! Do you want weather updates for the game? Do you want them on the calendar, or as a part of the regular game update, or something else?

APPLICATIONS UPDATE: Due to the near universal difficulties with the app word limit this round, we're upping the maximum to 2000 words. Also your mod is an idiot who forgot the contact info line that's also been fixed.

What's their deal?: Local Beanpole Is Actually Two Thousand Years Dead, Very Sad, Multiple Counts of Very Regrettable Fraticide. Or: This is Izunia, he's the twin of the game's main villain, he's kind of a huge part of the reason why his brother is the main villain, he Regrets It A Lot. I'm running almost entirely on headcanon here because I enjoy twisting knives in people who aren't even in this game (yet), but also because the muse grabbed me by the brain and wouldn't shut up so now we're here.
Plotting: please give this sad dad friends he has no idea what he's doing, except possibly Adopting Everyone

Okay, that's a lie, he has some idea what he's doing. Izunia's a politician and this is not the most complicated pile of people that he's had to deal with, but it's definitely a new situation which you don't encounter that often at his age. But he also hasn't had a body for most of his "life" and is going to have a bit of an adjustment period to that on top of all his other problems...

What's their deal?: Prompto's your typical JRPG lightweight, whiny joker, whose purpose is to cheer the party on and waste all your potions and phoenix downs on account of being the low DEF, high SPD gunner. He's coming in from pretty much the lowest point of his hecking life, AKA the start of a ten-year stretch of sunless, monster-filled, nightmarish suckitude, after a few painful misadventures of his own. With all that to deal with, he's not as bouncy and excitable as he'd normally be, but he'll still want to be as helpful and friendly as he possibly can.
Plotting: Prompto will be spending a lot of time with those chickens, and once he has a little time to recover from his world pretty much literally ending, I'm sure he'll be happy to make friends. Pls to be gentle with him.

What's their deal?: 20 totally counts as an adult, okay? Anyways he was your typical kid going out on a journey until he tried to fight an evil team all on his own and got severely messed up for it. He's a bit better nowadays thanks to having managed to face down the same evil team again and being able to handle them.
Plotting: Really I'm up for anything. He'll probably try to look out for any younger members of the group, as well as have his Pokemon help out around the station.

What's their deal?: The Mom Friend, even to people younger than her. She's got a few paranoid tics left over from her original adventures but she'll do her best to put on a cheerful face!
Plotting: Have her make enchanted stuff for everyone, basically. She'll probably also try and take over cooking/snack-making duties as much as possible. Since her campaign involved a sort of faceoff with something similar to a Shadow I'd also be interested in throwing her at Persona characters.

Who are you?: I'm an artist, a fan of RPGs and ancient cartoons people stopped caring about ten years ago, and a fast food slave who spends most of her days frying chicken. I have a chronic disorder that causes me a lot of pain, so I might be quiet on days where work was especially bad, but I'm generally at least on in the evenings.

Canon: Persona 5 [15 Strangers CRAU]
What's their deal?: JRPG antagonist with tragic backstory on a redemption arc thanks to a magical murder mall. Goro's backstory has some potentially uncomfortable content that I won't go into here, but life basically gave him a raw deal from the moment he was born, and it's pretty much all thanks to his father. As an illegitimate child and an orphan, he grew up as one of the dregs of society, and learned to hate everything and trust nobody. Then, in an attempt to get close enough to his father to exact horrible revenge for ruining his mother's life, he ended up an unwilling assassin in constant fear for his life.

The murder mall, really, was an improvement. His canon point was two weeks before he was supposed to try to kill his only friend, so he got to avoid doing that...except then he killed two other people and got executed. Fortunately, his game golden ended, and he was brought back as a TWEWY Composer, basically a minor deity in charge of an area's afterlife. He hates slightly less of everything and trusts slightly more than nobody, and is generally learning to open up and be his real self a little more after years of molding his behavior to what would make adults respect him the most. He's still got a lot to learn about real friendships, though, and has a bad habit of assuming the only way to get people to like him is to be useful.

Oh, yeah, he's also kind of a horrible troll, and him getting comfortable with someone means constant teasing and occasional pranks.
Plotting: He needs to get to know people! He'll be using his ability to conjure drinks to try to help out with the supplies issue, and will probably do a lot of exploring outside the Fissures. If you want someone to encourage and/or enable shenanigans 'to see what would happen', he's one of your guys.

Cori might try and recruit his drink-making ability to get ingredients/base materials for some of her enchanting stuff. And honestly I get the feeling he might end up reminding her of her own girlfriend, at least backstory-wise. Alternately she might just try and adopt him despite being younger.

In the RPsphere I'm probably most notable for being the one still playing homestuck ocs in this the year of our lord 2018, although I also dabble in World of Darkness ocs and occasionally even a canon character. I also do art and sometimes fic - the character I'm bringing to PhanRift is a minor background character for my long-running space opera of a homestuck fic.

What's their deal?: Field medic, long-AWOL brooding cavern attendant, and outlaw. Jetshard's spend the past dozen sweeps or so disguising her actual blood color and moving from gig to gig through the less legal circles of the empire - she's served on ships involved in piracy, smuggling, illegal salvage, and so on, and most recently has fallen in with a group of rebels backing the newly-adult heiress in her bid for the throne. She was raised by mothman and is relatively likely not to maim or kill you if you go to her for medical attention. Last week she confiscated a small circular cleaning robot with a knife taped to it from a couple of the younger rebels and it's still in her inventory.
Plotting: As the only troll in a station full of humans (and human lookalikes), she's going to be very interested in making enough contacts among the other refugees that hopefully if further shit hits additional fans she'll have established herself as the helpful doctor friend and not the weird bug alien monster, and also because having friends is good. Also, she'll be trying to track down some references on human anatomy and physiology so she can actually be the helpful doctor friend to all you weird aliens.

short and sweet version: he's coming in from a TWEWY-based murdergame where his first boyfriend (goro akechi) killed two people, and then the guy he had a crush on at the time and later became boyfriend (kurama) turned around and murdered someone, too.

the game messed with his memories, so he didn't know goro akechi was [spoilers redacted] and feelings were established before the first thing happened. then akira found out that death wasn't an end-all, and there was a happy reunion, tears were had, sunshine was felt again, and then...

that wasn't the end of anything at all, because now they're supposed to go save multiple worlds because SHO IS RUDE and NOISE IS EVERYWHERE.
Plotting: so before any plotting at all happens, there's this super handy permissions post that i need people to fill out! because, thanks to previous game, akira can now read all surface thoughts whenever he feels like doing it. i had avoided that mechanic in the TDM (because he already doesn't like doing it???), but there's more of a chance of it coming up in the game once he's settled and he feels there's a real reason?

THAT SAID... for those of you who know p5, he might be a bit. sadder. than what some might imagine. he's Seen Some Shit and is still recovering, both mentally and emotionally. i would really love for him to make some positive friends.

i welcome negative and challenging cr as well, of course! he's great about being super blunt, especially after entering a new level of Done over things.

alllllso, i must note that, his protective nature is in full force, thanks to all the crap he went through. this will very much apply to any close cr he makes here...!!!

What's their deal?:
He's a self-proclaimed normal high school student who routinely gets himself into abnormal situations. The guy is a hero in every sense of the word and will do his absolute best to save those around him. For better or worse, his protection even extends to people trying to kill him or have caused others harm. He saves people not because he believes it's the right thing to do, but because he can't bring himself to abandon anyone in need of help. As such, he has a tendency to see only the small picture and not worry about the possible consequences that will occur due to him rescuing them.

Plotting:
Touma has a history when it comes to reality being destroyed. To be it nicely, the guy is not going to take what's happening very well. He could use some nice, friendly people to help prevent him spending the beginning of the game in fetal position.

What's their deal?: An immortal spirit who got summoned for a war that he didn't really care about until he adopted a sad looking boy as his new best friend. He's coming from moments before what would be his own death, so as far as he's concerned this whole situation's pretty alright and he's ready to have a good time. He has optimism and idiocy in endless supply, if anyone's in need of some.
Plotting: I'd love for him to make friends, and definitely some enemies! Astolfo has no idea on what he's doing, nor does he really plan to. Drag him along for shenanigans.

What's their deal?: SO basically what it says on the tin, this is Makoto but the main party is genderswapped so Makoto's a guy! There are some other differences beside that, mainly to do with how being genderswapped would affect the party, their missions, etc. Main differences for Makoto is his relationship with his sister is more strained, and while he actually spent most of his life planning on becoming a police officer like his father, he's starting to reconsider that and is thinking of becoming a lawyer like Sae.

But differences aside, he's still the studious, responsible babysitter of the rest of his friends, the one who makes them do their homework before running out to revolutionize the world and probably glares at them if they don't finish their veggies, especially if it's Akira-san's curry. He's the Phantom Thieves advisor and former student council president, so he's pretty good at taking charge or formulating strategy. He knows aikido and can be pretty damn scary when he gets mad too.

He does get freaked out by ghost stories or spooky stuff like that. He's totally the one who goes into the haunted house clinging to Akira's arm; when you hear a high-pitched scream ten seconds later, yeah, that was him...

Oh, also, sometimes I refer to him as Ma-kun, just to shorthand his name and distinguish him from his canon version. Futaro (au!Futaba) calls him that, but most everyone else uses the full name.

Plotting: Makoto will kind of jump right into student council president-mode, just trying to be as helpful as possible while giving as much as possible to the group. Positive CR from people who want to help would be great, but also CR from people who might find him kind of bossy is great too XD Truth be told he hasn't had much in the way of good friends before the Phantom Thieves and he's still kind of learning how to do that without also trying to solve all the problems in the world at the same time. People who can teach him the meaning of chill would probably be good too...

Plotting: Ja’far needs friends! And he will be trying to find some way home. Maybe. Possibly. He’s used to the idea of ‘dungeons’ and how they’re practically a whole new world inside, so he might find those rifts interesting at least. Since he’s been ripped away from his duties back home, he might get a chance to relax...sort of. Learning magic might be something he’d be interested, too.

Aya is that tengu (well, one of them), and she is Way Too Nosy about the way she does her job.
Plotting: SHE WANTS TO INTERVIEW YOU ALL. She'd also make a very good choice for a scout to investigate incoming fissures, since she's fast, takes pictures of everything, and isn't likely to get personally involved in the thing, but she might need to be pushed in that direction.

What's their deal?: Pidonus Marasia, the Diet Coke Of Evil. She's a bard, she's a Succubus, she has the power of darkness brought up to a very high level... And she's frankly a nincompoop who among other things needs to learn how screwed up her Queen actually is.

Plotting: Initially, Pidonus is going to be afraid to actually have any emotions or signs of the long-repressed capacity for good in her heart. She'll be friendly enough, and she'll probably want to tease at least someone at some point, but will be spooked at the prospect of actual relationships...

Canon: Books of the Raksura, with a little CRAU from a short-lived jamjar called Last Eden, mostly so I don't have to go through the "wait, other worlds? what's a human?" thing again :P
What's their deal?: A shapeshifter with two forms: one mainly human-ish but with gray skin, sharper teeth, and a longer tongue; the other black and scaled and winged, and basically looking a lot like a humanoid dragon. He's basically a grumpy grandfather type, except he his species gets bigger and stronger as they age, so he is also huge, like an 80 foot wingspan. He's a good guy under the grump, though, and fundamentally not human, so he tends to have odd ideas about things and react to things in unexpected ways.
Plotting: Adopting people, getting confused by technology, eating things he probably shouldn't be eating, and shifting at the wrong time and getting stuck somewhere.

What's their deal?: Kurama likes to pretend he is fine. Most people around him may think he is fine. He is not fine. But he would rather verbally slice open other people's infected emotional wounds and bandage them up than deal with his own. He needs more people that can see through his protective layers of bullshit.
Plotting: Kurama can range anywhere from being a total mom friend to being the worst troll alive, tbh. He's essentially kind-hearted but he is also still a demon fox and tends to have a sense of humor most generously described as 'playful'. And then he's a chilling ruthless bastard to enemies. I am eager for CR to showcase all three of these qualities!

....I also kind of want something to trigger his PTSD from the murdergame in front of people at some point because I'm a bad person.

Canon: Charlie is from the Five Nights at Freddy's books, which actually do exist, I swear to God, and don't follow the same timeline as the games.
What's their deal?: Blah blah tragic past, angsty surviving twin, no superpowers. Her dad made the Fazbear robots, his business buddy was the god damn Purple Guy, it all ended badly. ... But if some theories are right, it could've ended worse. To cut to the chase, there's some theorizing that in the games, Charlie is the inhabitant of THIS pain in every LPer's face. ... So yeah. Beware the quiet ones, and all that.
Plotting: I am all for CR that gets her out of her shell and emotionally invested in things, since she normally isn't. (I am also all for her going berserk to protect them.) ...or someone could protect her since she is 18 and child what are you doing running around with the protag card.

If it makes you feel any better, not many people know that Touma comes from a light novel series. Most people are only aware of the anime.

Anyway, Touma is a professional when it comes to protecting people and helping them with their emotional baggage. It's like his job except he gets paid in pain.
