So Violet's slipped into this weird gap between "kid Prompto would be gentle and encouraging and brotherly towards" and "unapproachable formal maiden," which is really enlightening to play out, because it means Prompto doesn't have a ready-made role to put on for her and so the things he says to her are more genuine than they might be with, say, Talcott and Iris on the one hand and Lunafreya on the other. He's also just skirting the edge of realizing something is mad upsetting with her backstory, and he's aware of that and actively holding back; he thinks someone wiser and more qualified than him should get that reveal, not ready to step into that grown-up role. But I'm pretty sure he will, soon enough, because he just feels more strongly about her each time they interact.

I can't believe that chicken thread went the way it did. I can't believe a fourteen-year-old girl is probably going to be the first person Prompto tries to open up about his past with, just because he doesn't want her to go through the same sort of bottling-up he has all these years.

What little of the society Violet is from that Pidonus knows about deeply creeps Pidonus out... A major part of this simply being that the values and aesthetic of the setting are very different from anything she's ever known, but in a way that less excites her and more reminds her of Lawful societies (something she's kind of attuned to hate given her Chaotic nature).

She still wants to protect and aid Violet as she can, but views part of that as trying to unstifle her from a stifling worldview. For once, she is aware of the irony here, given her own worldview is comparably pidgeonholed...

SSSSOOOOOOO... god, Prompto has a lot of Zuzu feelings, obviously, and--like Izunia's own feelings about literally everything--they're hard to disentangle from his feelings about Ardyn. By now, I think Prompto would actually be able to tell them apart at a glance, as long as Izunia wasn't purposefully putting on his Ardyn act; Prompto's had to make an effort to define the differences between Zuzu and Ardyn in order not to be constantly freaking out. They've been stuck in close quarters in this totally foreign world for too long not to do that work, and Izunia's been really patient and understanding about that.

But the fact Izunia hasn't been able to give the space Prompto would otherwise demand has led to something really fascinating to me. Like, yeah, the fact that Izunia's been so generous and so patient with Prompto has really helped smooth things over between them, but more than that, Prompto's picked up on the fact that Izunia's really, really lonely. And THAT's what he responds to, mostly. He'd tolerate Izunia and treat him well if Izunia was just nice, but he wouldn't have an interest in listening to him and helping him if he couldn't identify and empathize with that need in him.

Because Prompto hasn't forgotten that Zuzu said he wouldn't have stopped Noct from going in the Crystal, either. Things have smoothed over between them, but that admission and the fact that Izunia is so pro-Ardyn hasn't just gone away, it's still there, even if Prompto wants to help him be happy. For Prompto, it's very much a feeling of having a good friend across enemy lines, and he feels bad for Zuzu but he'll fight god and the universe and everything for Noct, and he still feels that Izunia's one of those forces on the side of taking Noct away.

So it's hard for him to understand Izunia's investment in protecting him and helping him Grow Up Strong and Healthy--hard for him to understand that he is invested, let alone why, because Prompto has that intuition that they're on opposite sides. He's been seeing the kindness more as an olive branch than an attempt to actually plant him in better soil, so to speak, and so he's constantly baffled? By this familial concern for his emotional well-being? What is it? (He also didn't have enough of it growing up, literally what is it, what is happening?)

The simplest way to put it, I guess, is that he likes Izunia and feels that he's a good person, and of course he was the only familiar thing around in those first deeply destabilizing, really painful weeks for Prompto. But he doesn't trust him with those things that are fundamentally important to him. It'll still take more time for the positive relationship they have to strengthen/solidify enough to hold other, less vital areas of trust, but I think that's the direction they're headed in.

having a nap partner who doesn't mind physical contact is actually a big relief for Stone. he's not as affectionate as some of his people, but not having any physical contact ever, whether when sleeping or just lounging around, is just. uncomfortable for him? Izunia is probably keeping him sane by napping on him now and then.

I LOVE THIS CR? And Prompto does, too. It feels like Nathaniel might be the first new friend Prompto's made, like, on his level, in quite a long time. He loves meeting and hearing about Pokémon and is finding himself in a genuine spot of wanting to know where Nathaniel's coming from so they can hang out and just know how each of them work and stuff.

Prompto himself is still nervous about opening himself up the same way, because he's a bundle of insecurities tied together with spit and good intentions, but there's just something about Nathaniel that... he just feels like friend material. Prompto would throw down for this guy, seriously. He's not afraid of no God Hunters. (Well, he is, but.)
