TEST DRIVE 001
Hello, and welcome to the first test drive for Phantasmal Rift!
Test drive threads are assumed to be game canon for accepted characters unless otherwise noted, so don't feel like you'll have to introduce yourself a second time to everyone you meet! As an added bonus, participation in the test drive comes with the chance to earn up to two items of loot for your trouble! Characters who are accepted can earn one item for having a top level, and one for tagging out to someone else's top level! Your SWEET LOOT will be included with your acceptance notice.
(In the future, characters who are in-game can also earn themselves an extra item of loot for tagging in to top levels on the test drive, to be distributed with the rest of their loot upon dungeon completion.)
This first test drive is based in the Fissure nearest to the Station, and comes with three potential options, all with a distinctly watery bent -
OPTION 1: MAROONED
Hey, uh... What's that maroon film distorting your vision? And how did you get on this beach, anyway?
So long as the sun is shining, there doesn't seem to be a problem out here on the beach, aside from the strange maroon tint to everything. But when clouds pass over, the tint grows darker, and darker, and the water grows redder, and redder...
That... can't be blood, can it?
Characters who remain beneath the patchy cloud cover will find themselves filled with increasing anxiety that the ocean is made of blood, until either the cloud passes or they check the water for themselves. The bad news is, that while it isn't actually an ocean of blood, contact with the red water will drain characters of energy very rapidly, causing sudden fits of exhaustion as though they were suffering from anemia. By itself, this isn't particularly dangerous...
...Except that the return of the sun doesn't mean the return of that lost energy, and if you've waded out too far, the shifting sand and pull of the waves underfoot can easily pull you down and under.
OPTION 2: LANDSHARK
You really hope that isn't a shark fin moving through the sand. That's just not possible, right?
(Yes, yes it is.)
Landsharks are amphibious, predatory creatures just as at home in the sand as below the waves, and always hungry. They track their prey via disturbances in the sand or water, but fortunately, you can track them the same way - they're large enough to be easily visible in the relatively clear waters near the beach, and their bulk causes a patch of shifting sand above them as they roam for more terrestrial prey.
As a result, they're most dangerous near the waterline, where the shifting sand is hard to see due to the motion of the waves (though they can, of course, pop up further up the beach). Fortunately, they're not large enough to swallow a person whole. Unfortunately, they're still between nine and twelve feet long depending on the individual and easily large enough to take a good chunk out of you.
Like any other shark, they're vulnerable to being sliced open with something sharp, kicked in the gills, or punched in the snout to establish dominance. On the magical end, they have a particular weakness to electricity.
On the bright side, if you're hungry enough, the landsharks are very edible once cooked (or, you know, if you like sushi). For some reason, the meat tastes faintly of chocolate...?
Drops: Meat, shark teeth, candygrams.
OPTION 3: JUST IN TIDE
A bit further down from the beach, the water comes up to the base of the rocky cliffs, leaving numerous nooks and crannies to climb over and explore. In fact, they're practically begging for it.
What might you find? Well, there's the usual beach refuse, for a start - sand, seaweed, shells and fragments of shells, and big barnacles and mussels tucked into the cracks. However, other debris finds its way into the cracks, ocean-going refuse from a thousand worlds... There's also a number of pointy blue-green crystals that tingle to the touch and remain wet no matter how characters attempt to dry them.
And finally, there's a bunch of bottle crabs - overlarge hermit crabs that look more at home in half-broken beer bottles or soda cans at their size than they do in shells (though they'll live in anything that seems protective enough - the largest seem prone to making their homes in rusty helmets). The crabs are not aggressive unless you harass them first, but they can give a nasty pinch if provoked.
...Did you lose track of time out there among the rocks, or did time lose track of you?
Either way, you're now stuck out as the tide comes in. If you can swim, good for you! You probably won't have too much of a problem, at least once you're far enough from the rocks that you aren't at risk of getting thrown against them and having some important swimming limb broken...
On second thought, maybe it's better to stay here and wait it out, whether you can swim or not. Hope you're ready for a couple hours stuck on a rock with some weird-looking, too-big hermit crabs and...

Goro Akechi | Persona 5/15 Strangers CRAU
[To most, the strange environment might be a little disorienting, but nothing too bad. To someone with the extra senses Goro Akechi has gained...it's a confusing mess of jumbled reality. Too many different frequencies jumble together, until he's not even sure what his own vibe is set to. Trying to sort it out is quickly giving him a headache, leaving the young Composer standing in the sand with his hand pressed to his face.
He barely notices the fin lifting out of the shifting sand, before he has to throw himself to the side to avoid a shark leaping at his face. Is that...Noise? No, they look fully solid...a Shadow? He can't even tell if this is the Metaverse or not, and it's strange enough to be a Palace. Yes, that seems like the best bet. Which means...yes. As he calls on the power of his subconscious, a red mask appears on his face.]
Robin Hood!
[The mask vanishes as a figure appears, and the pillar of light it creates is enough to knock the shark out of the air. A pale gold pillar makes sure its dead as Robin Hood vanishes, the mask settling back onto Goro's face. He glances at the shark's corpse with a puzzled expression, slowly approaching to nudge it...and to pick up the piece of heart shaped candy lying next to it.]
Then it can't be a Shadow...or a Cognitive being. What's going on here?

[Exploring, at least, helps to distract him from the headache he gets whenever he thinks about the frequency he's on. While he could fly up the cliff side, climbing is simply more fun. And he moves like he's used to it, scaling the cliffs with practiced ease until he finds a level shelf. There he looks around, examining interesting objects - particularly those always-damp crystals - and playing with the bottle crabs. He seems to find the creatures cute, as he picks up one of the smaller ones with a grin.
He's so busy exploring that he doesn't even notice the tide coming in. And...oh, it looks like someone else has joined him on the rock shelf. He waves, still holding one of the giant hermit crabs in his other hand.]
Ah, hello. I didn't mean to ignore you, are you alright?

Of course, now the tide's coming in, and even if there's something seriously off with the vibe the guy seems to exist at.

[It's peaceful on this beach. Quiet. The waves roll in and out. Clouds scud by overhead. Someone groans. The breeze is gentle.
Uh.
A young man lies sprawled out face-down a few feet above the shoreline, dressed in black, a gun in his hand. He lifts his face lethargically, goes pfft to try to get the grit off his face, and then just lets his head thunk back down into the sand.]
Uggghhh...
[Well. Maybe it's naptime?]

Aw, man!
[Prompto, with an armful of damp crystals gathered in the crook of his arm, looks out in dismay at the risen tide.]
This is a disaster. Come on, guys, where are you...?
[He sighs and sits on what rocky land remains outside the mouth of the small cave he's been exploring and examines the weird, definitely magic crystals. For reasons unknown, he can't seem to access Noct's Armiger, so Prompto's had to resort to carrying his gun as well as the crystals around manually, like a plebe. But it's better than not having it at all. He can't put things in, but he can't take them out, either, and he feels better armed than not.
But he'd feel even better if he knew where the guys were. Or, better yet, where he is in relation to them.
He pulls his phone out of his pocket once more and dials, bringing it back to his ear. Hope springs eternal! Or something.]

[ He's been spending a lot of time deep in thought, since his arrival.
And, at first (when darkness begins to approach, that is), it isn't quite so bad. The water looks a little disturbing, sure, but it's not anything nearly as creepy as what he's seen in the Metaverse... or in the game.
Then it gets even darker, and the appearance of that water changes to a much more disturbing degree. Akira's actually about to walk away, to just... leave it the hell alone, when he realizes he can't stop staring at this damn water. A chill runs down his spine. It really does look like blood...
... Of course he's not going to touch it, but he's also not moving away for now. ]
[ This place is already confusing as hell... but now there are sharks in the sand. They remind him a little of something out of a video game he played y years ago, and some part of him just wants to get a closer look. But... apparently this one wants to chase him down. Fortunately, he's already learned that Personas work here, so he's going to be calling on Thor.
It doesn't take him too long to decide that a good maziodyne does the trick...
The mask vanishes from his face as he walks closer to the creature. And, that's... candy. The things drop candy. A tiny smile of exasperated amusement surfaces for just a moment as he holds it up for whoever just walked up (or was already here). ]
Hungry?
[ Okay, but... the crabs and stones-that-shall-not-be-dried are, in fact, enough to keep his attention. While he is visibly exasperated with the fact that he's going to have to make a swim for it, that seems to go away as he gets to a different rock -- one that someone else is on. Maybe this person is taking a break? Maybe they can't swim?
... Whatever the case, they now have Akira for company! And, fortunately, he has... some snacks, soda, and bottled water. Yay more water. He'll hold the... now incredibly wet... bag out for the person beside him. Thirsty? ]
Guess this could tide us over if we decide to wait it out.

Stone of Indigo Cloud | Books of the Raksura
Oh, is this thing going to think it can take the lanky, gray-skinned old man standing on the sand? It is in for a big surprise. As soon as the landshark explodes from the sand, the gray-skinned old man leaps back more nimbly than one would expect for, well, an old man. Then he's gone entirely, disappeared in a cloud of dark mist... and a much larger, black-scaled creature with wings, a tail, and spines all down its neck and shoulders lands on the shark, instead. It's almost twice the landshark's size, and all four limbs end in sharp claws that dig in and swiftly disembowel the animal.
Anyone coming by after that will find the big, winged creature contentedly (and fairly neatly) eating the landshark raw, tearing strips of meat off the bone and flicking blood from its claws. Then he'll rinse off in the nearby water, and settle in for a good wallow in the warm sand.
For a fissure dungeon, this isn't a terrible place, at least if you're a Raksura line-grandfather like Stone.

Violet Evergarden | Violet Evergarden | cw for uh violet beating up a shark
[ .. well, this can't be right. The last Violet remembered, she was on a boat but they were heading for a port. Not a beach. And most importantly of all, Violet can't remember whatever came in between her on the boat and her, now, on the beach. There has to have been an in-between moment somewhere, but no matter how much Violet turns it over in her mind, it isn't anywhere to be found.
Well. If she can't find an explanation for this, then maybe she can find someone who'll be able to provide one.
So, fellow Rifters, while you're here on the beach you might spot another newcomer wandering around. She doesn't look like she's going in any particular direction but somehow her aimless striding still seems purposeful. Every now and then, she calls out a name. ]
Lieutenant Colonel. Lieutenant Colonel Hodgins! [ ... ] Major Gilbert...?
[ She almost sounded a little hopeful there. But when she gets no answer to either of those names, she carries on with her little search, still calling them out periodically. Do your best, Violet. ]
MMMMORTAL KOMBAT
[ Well, no one has any shark repellant but we do have something even better; Violet Evergarden. No, really.
She seems quite unconcerned by the fact that she's very obviously being tailed by a landshark. The characteristic fin slices through the sand close to her as she walks and Violet only spares it a glance. The only indication she's seen it at all is a slight quickening of her pace but other than that, she doesn't seem to care.
Until the landshark surfaces and seems to be about ready to nip at her heels. That gets her attention.
In a flash, far too quick for a girl like Violet, she whips around. There's the hard, solid thwack of metal meeting flesh as she tanks a punch right into the shark's snout and she doesn't seem satisfied with stopping there either. Once she's done punching, Violet gives the shark a good hard kick and then
no, surely she can't be about... to...
Well then.
You've just witnessed a tiny blonde girl judo throwing a landshark without a single breath out of place. Like she does this all the time. I--is this just a day ending in y for you, Violet?!
She only looks mildly annoyed with the shark that she's now slammed into the dirt and she's gazing down at it like she's not quite sure what to do now it's beaten. If she notices she's being observed, Violet glances up and her expression melts back into what can only be called neutral. Her tone is just as even when she eventually pipes up. ]
... If you would like the meat, please feel free to take it. There are plenty of others up and down the beach that I can handle myself.

[ ... Violet's been in here for a while.
She wandered in mostly for exploration's sake, so she could assure any superiors that she's done a full recon of the area she'd found herself in. But she seems distracted -- captivated even -- by those blue-green stones. She's holding a large chunk of crystal up into the light, carefully turning it so fragments of green and blue dance around the walls of the cave and skitter across Violet's cheek and eyes. There's something suddenly soft and open about her face, which has changed from its usual brand of Nothing to a look of innocent, almost childlike wonder.
... unfortunately that also means she's yet to notice that the water is already ankle-deep and looks set to get deeper. Uh. Maybe give her a little shake and let her know? ]
STREET SHARKZ
His second thought is oh crap! Because she's seen him, and he's just standing their dumbly waiting for a fly to buzz into his mouth. He shakes his head and trots over, though he slows as he nears her, uh. Victim.]
Is it dead? ...Is it even something you can eat? Uh, hi, by the way, I'm Prompto Argentum.

Corwin Gardener | OC | Post-Game from Hex
Corwin cannot swim. Corwin, in fact, is pretty sure he could walk across the bottom of the ocean without floating, if he tried. If he didn't think it would be very damaging to his innards to try. After all, he's not human-- he's a glorified golem, in most people's terms, and he's made from spare parts, dark spirit-stuff, and something that only mostly resembles a human body. He keep his sunglasses firmly in place on his long, crooked nose so at least no one can see the endless black of his white-less eyes. (For those in the know, he's a World of Darkness Promethean. Think Frankenstein's monster only with magic layered in with the tech, and a deep-seated desire to eventually become human.)
So he can't swim, and he thinks walking along the bottom would probably be a bad idea. Instead, he sits on his sand bar with the crabs and the collection of crystals he'd been in the process of collecting for experimentation, looking forlorn and creepy and generally unpleasant. Anyone want to help? Or at least be marooned on the sandbar with him and endure the way the sense of "unnatural and dangerous" rolls off him in waves?

And then he enters the range of that aura and... hesitates. He feels that aura, yes, feels it and is reminded of things that do way more to ruin his mood way more than the aura itself.
And yet -
He made the mistake once, to his greatest folly. Even with fear prickling the back of his neck, messy maroon hair standing on end, he'll take the risk.
"Hello!" That smile is clearly forced, but at least he's trying.

Peta Mari Selamputo | OC
"That is disgusting," Peta Mari says, eyeing the not-blood ocean with, well, disgust. It even smells like blood. Gross. Even a dragon (shapeshifted or not) generally likes her food well-cooked and not swimming in gore. Well, a civilized dragon, anyhow. And Peta Mari is a very civilized dragon, thank you very much.
Peta Mari is currently in a human(oid) shape, at least, tall and lanky, with skin that's likely to burn in the beach sun and dark red hair wrapped in a multitude of braids around her head. She also has an array of shiny black and gold horns on her head, two long tufted tails sticking out from the bottom of her light work jacket that lash with aggitation, and folded, feathered wings on her back that protect the backpack of supplies she had with her. Shapeshifting may be her greatest skill (besides intellectual debate and winning the hearts of naive young ladies), but she still has to work with a roughly similar amount of mass as her dragon form. It all has to go somewhere.

"I take it this isn't normal for you?" he ventures. It's a more roundabout, and therefore safer, way of asking 'are you from around here' or 'do you have any idea what's going on.' Being in unfamiliar worlds isn't new to him, by this point, and discretion is important when trying to gather information.
Yung Venuz | Nuclear Throne
Hey, Y.V. doesn't mind a leisurely trip to the beach every now and then. It's a nice break from the 900-degree weather outside his mansion back home and actual water is pretty cool too. But maybe his unfamiliarity with the basics of chemical compositions explains why he doesn't seem too bothered by the weird maroon tint all over everything.
He's wandered up and down the beach at this point, looking for something particularly interesting, but now he's settling down in the sand. He still has his hand on his gold-plated revolver, though, letting it sit on his lap - like hell he's letting sand get in it when he's not sure he can pull out another one to replace it.

Keeping his gun handy was a smart idea, though, because when he makes another excursion along the beach, he sees the fin of a landshark heading towards him. "A'ight. Come at me, motherfucker."
For a cone on legs, he's pretty spry, and somehow even manages to be firing two bullets at once despite only having one gun. He dispatches the landshark eventually, poking through to collect the teeth. Might make a neat necklace for his cuz until he gets his gun-wielding chops.
Aya Shameimaru | Touhou Project
The sound of the ocean is unlike anything Aya has ever heard. The odd red tint to everything is fine, sure, it probably has something to do with vampires. But that is definitely more water than she has ever seen in her entire life.
She has an old-style camera and is zipping this way and that getting a reel of good shots of the horizon, turning a gentle sea breeze into a series of extremely short but powerful gusts, but you can also hear her taking notes and muttering something about how to write about this without involving herself.

One particular touchdown is almost a bad one. Aya doesn't realize the danger hidden underneath the sand until a fraction of a second before it's too late, jumping out of the sand just as a hungry shark bursts out and chomps at it.
"Iya! If you're going to try that, you're just an animal..."
With a swing of her maple fan, Aya whips the surrounding air up into a cyclone. The shark is inexorably drawn into the center and sliced up by the force and the high-speed grains of sand flying around in it, which are also scattering every which way. If you happen to be nearby, good luck avoiding it. At least it won't hurt.

"Well. That's a lot more impressive than my magic," she comments, a little wide-eyed. Shapeshifting, okay, that might be impressive, but it also doesn't really do much against monsters.
She doesn't look remotely human. Her ears are big and mobile, her head is crowned with no less than four shiny black horns, she has two long tufted tails coming out of the bottom of her jacket, and on her back a pair of half-open feathered wings. She sounds friendly enough, though, if still a bit shocked by the display.

Sawbones Jetshard | OC (homestuck fantroll)
[Jetshard has, naturally, been trying to stay out of direct sunlight; although the light here is not nearly as harsh as the light of her native sun, she's visited enough colony worlds to know that being able to tolerate the light of this sun without discomfort isn't the same as taking no damage from it. If nothing else, she's discovered in the past that sun exposure does things to her complexion that she doesn't particularly care for. So while she's not running for cover, she does keep her tinted lenses on and stays in the shade as much as is feasible.
Of course, this means that when she makes her way to the water's edge, the water appears to be no such thing. The color is odd, certainly, even considering the reddish pall over everything here, but the scent, the viscosity - Jetshard knows blood when she encounters it, variant pigmentation or no. Animal blood maybe? What could be large enough to bleed in these quantities, anyway? The troll crouches at the ocean's edge carefully, reaches out to dip fingertips into the surf... and gasps as the wave of fatigue overtakes her. She stands too quickly, stumbles a little, and sits heavily at the water's edge.
The water's edge, because sunlight reaches that bit of shoreline as she tries to catch her breath and wipes her hand clean on the hem of her shirt.]

[Ok so maybe she's not avoiding the sunlight so much anymore. If she gets some kind of terrible sunsickness she'll deal with that later.
Not like she has much choice anyway, because Jetshard has a landdwelling troll's caution of open water even in the best of circumstances, and she is not going to try to swim to shore, thank you very much. She can wait this out. It'll give her time to take a closer look at the various bits of flotsam and jetsam she's been shoving into her sylladex anyway.
The blue crystals particularly hold her interest, and after the first time she touched one with her bare hand, she's been mostly handling them with her sleeve pulled down over her fingers. Still, just because she's cautious about the crystals doesn't mean she isn't curious, and she glances over at the other poor soul stuck on this rock with her, stone in hand.] Very strange question, I realize, but do these feel odd to you?

Kurama | Yu Yu Hakusho/ 15 Strangers CRAU
[The weird environment itself doesn't faze him; Kurama had seen a lot of weird places in his lifetime. However, the recently instated Composer is not having a good time with the jumbled mess of frequencies screeching across his other senses. It's headache-inducing and grinds against nerves already on edge from the odd, maroon light.
He leaves his shoes on the sand as he steps into the shallow water closest to the beach, kneeling down to splash his face. It's cold but that's just what his head needs at the moment.
Except that is when the clouds creep across the sun and everything darkens. He knows it isn't blood, the smell is wrong, the feel, everything, it's just red water but it looks like blood, blood on his hands, his face, blood soaking his clothes and pulling him down with the weight of his own sins-
No. Self-preservation kicks in with a sharp burst of clarity; he isn't being pulled down, he is slumping with weakness as his energy is drained away.
Kurama throws himself backward out of the water, falling onto the damp sand and pulling himself far enough that the water no longer touches him. But the burst of movement leaves him exhausted and sprawled limply on the beach.
Which might worry anyone who finds him, since he is too drained to bother with anything as pointlessly habitual as breathing.]
[Option 2] Landshark...not actually the weirdest thing this month.
[Kurama notices the fin. Of course he notices the fin. He just chooses, initially, to give the fin a chance to choose a different course in life.
For example, a course that will allow it to continue having a life.
Sadly, as is par for the course in his life, his willingness to offer a chance to live is taken as a chance to attack, instead. The massive shark lunges out of the sand, toothy maw gaping wide as it goes for him.
Except Kurama jumps, one foot landing hard on the shark's snout and propelling him higher. Technically he doesn't need to, but being able to fly isn't trained into his muscle memory yet. He reaches into his hair and pulls out a rose.]
Rose Whip!
[The flower shimmers into a long, thorned whip. The rapid series of lashes that follow leave the shark's corpse in pieces on the sand as Kurama lands lightly. His expression turns quizzical as he picks up a piece of heart-shaped candy and sniffs lightly at the pieces of shark.]
Why does this smell like chocolate?

What definitely worries him is the fact that Kurama is sprawled out across the sand like that. There's a tensing of his body before he rushes over, eyes flickering between the redhead and the water, along the way. He'd already been transfixed by the appearance of the latter before now... and it's actually incredibly annoying?? Almost as though he's unable to stop freaking out over it. ]
Kurama...?
[ While forcing his eyes to remain focused on the opposite form, he's kneeling down, gently resting a hand on one shoulder. ]

[The girl standing in the middle of the beach looks a little out of place. She has dreadlocks, tusks, and is wearing some sort of sleeveless armor. The box pouches at her hip squirm as though something live is inside. In one hand, a thick green mist swirls around her fingertips. In the other, is a completely mundane sub-machine gun.]
[She seems to be waiting for something. Indeed, her patience pays off as the sand in front of her shifts suddenly and a shark springs forth. She dodges to the side nimbly, unloading what seems to be an entire clip into the shark's side as it flies past. It falls on the beach unceremoniously, very dead.]
[The girl lets out a victorious whoop before immediately plunging her hands into its mouth.]
[Gross.]

[Gobbet sits cross-legged atop a rock, thoroughly stranded by the tide. If this bothers her, she certainly doesn't show it. In fact, she seems supremely content sitting there with her collection of teeth, crystals, and...rats. Rats that are happily gnawing away at a large chunk of shark meat in her lap.]
[A crooked smile plays over her lips, perfectly happy as she watches the ocean below. If you wander close enough, she'll pat the ground beside her.]
'Sup? Wanna watch the tide come in?

[To be honest, Jetshard is not exactly thrilled about either the encroaching water or the rats, but the rats at least appear to be somewhat under the girl's influence or control and the tide, so far as she can tell, answers to no one.
At least Gobbet's appearance doesn't seem any more outlandish to her than that of most of the people on the beach. Her own slate-grey skin and bright orange horns still seem to be the outlier around here.]

Marie Parfacy/Soma Peries | Gundam 00
[Before her eyes open 'something's wrong' immediately flashes through her various senses. The gravity, the scent of the ocean water-- none of it matches with her memories. Soma is immediately scrambling to reconcile the differences. The layout is similar to that of Earth, however-- visually something is wrong. The air itself appears to have an ominous tint to it that immediately puts her on alert. This may be another planet altogether. At least it appears fit for life. For now she'll have to investigate further.
To do that she'll have to gather information. One look at the red ocean and she steps closer to investigate. Her body is covered by her suit, so she is willing to dip her fingers into the substance. The consistency seems normal however she feels the slight drain. If it were anyone else maybe they wouldn't have noticed such a small amount but it felt wrong. She immediately pulled away from it, taking several steps back.]
The effects are almost immediate. Even the slightest exposure-- this planet may not be safe for living on.
[Anyone who approaches will be subjected to Soma Peries' questioning. Although-- Marie is listening, and the soldier is willing to let her talk if it will obtain better results.]
Just in Tide
[It was no difficult task to scale the rocky cliffs. Marie was curious what else she could learn about the landscape. And if she got a better vantage she may be able to scout for the other members of their crew as well as their vessels. Anything that could lead her to answers about Allelujah Haptism.
She noted the blue-green crystals-- rubbing a finger over the surface. It was surreal, and unlike any substance she'd seen before. Perhaps she could take some for testing... That aside, her real goal was to get a good look at her surroundings. Yet no matter how far she looked there was no sign of the gundams or the other pilots or crew.
But the tide was coming in. It may have taken her longer than she thought.]
No sign of the others... it's going to be a long night.
[She can't say she isn't a little disheartened. But she's trying to stay strong.]

Jafar closes his eyes, fingers pinching the bridge of his nose as he tries to figure out what happened that brought him here. The last thing he could remember was standing in Partevia’s capital with Sinbad and then—nothing. The lack of memories has him frowning, releasing his nose and he shifts his gaze to the water.
Or was it even water anymore?
He’s seen a lot of strange things in the past while dealing with the Djinns’ dungeons, so the way the water seems to have developed the color of blood doesn’t really bother him. Or rather, he would be more bothered if it actually smelled like blood. So he takes it in stride, perhaps feeling an inkling of anxiety forming in his chest. He doesn’t wade out into the water, doesn’t trust it enough to do so.
But as the cloud shifts pass, he lifts his gaze and squints at the sky, trying to figure out the time of day or if time even works here at all.]
[Land Shark]
[What the hell is this?
Jafar is familiar with sea creatures - Sindria is surrounded by many of them - but these creatures were not…normal. Or if they are, then this would be his first time seeing it because he isn’t familiar with sea creatures actually swimming in the sand. It also doesn’t surprise him too much when it seems to be charging at him, jumping out at him with the obvious intent of hunger.
A pair of daggers connected to blood red wires streak out, embedded into the creature’s sides while the wires wrap around it. A sharp tug and it gets torn apart from the wires, pieces of it sliced up neatly now on the ground.
If he hears someone come over, he glances at that person while he rewraps the wires around his arms.]

[Instead of opting to stay in place, he finally decides to move and explore what else may remain on the beach — or who else.
He isn’t really expecting to find much, perhaps to see if the beach is connected to a larger piece of land or if it remains to be something of an island. Exploring is something that he’s used to and at ease with, taking in every crook and nanny with a scrutinizing eye. Any sort of treasures he notices, he takes note of, and possibly hangs onto just in case.
…Until the tide comes in and he’s stranded.
Jafar settles down, deciding to wait it out, ignoring the crabs and he notices the other person with him.]

Well. Great. Pidonus was, as far as she could tell, in some weird-ass location in the Abyss. The air was maroon, the ocean was probably blood, and she was alone. All by herself.
No one here to comfort her or guide her.The problem with the Abyss being infinite, was it left all these weird-ass places that were vaguely Chaotic and Evil somehow. And when she'd stepped out into the water, she felt a powerful negative energy effect - enough that it had forced her to run back, cast Restoration on herself to make sure she didn't lose levels, and be very, very annoyed.
Her options right now consisted of 'hole up outside in hopes someone non-malicious found her', 'set up that new magic ring that her Queen had given her to provide a portable hideout' (her Queen was so nice to gift her this after her latest successful getting-humiliated-for-a-useful-cause!), or 'fly out in a random direction and hope she found something before she tired out enough to drop into the ocean and probably drown'.
For the moment, she'd try the first; she didn't have anyone angry enough at her to try a scry-and-die, so...
[Option 2]
"YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME! LAND SHARKS. SERIOUSLY. LAND SHARKS. ARE THEY GONNA START SHOUTING 'CANDYGRAM' OR SOMETHING?!?!?"
The Succubus had drawn her sword the moment she saw the shark shift from the water to under the sands, intending to just gut the thing if it approached.
Around the second time it had jumped her, overpowered her swing, and took a very minor cut while it bit into her, she screamed in frustration.
"STUPID SHARK, STUPID SAND, STUPID SHARK IN SAND THAT MAKES LESS SENSE THAN HALF THE ABERRATIONS IN THE MONSTER MANUAL!"
At least it hadn't bit her hard enough that her Damage Reduction couldn't regenerate the damage... Yet. She also hadn't thought to start flying to confuse the sharks, though...
Option 2
As Goro's voice called out from behind Pidonus, a humanoid figure appeared overhead. The lightning bolt she cast out caught the shark mid-leap, sending it into convulsions that threw it off course. Though only a mid-tier spell, the shark's weakness to electricity turned it into a vicious attack.
As the Persona dissolved into blue flame, reforming as a mask, her owner stepped forward. He kept his eyes on the shark, not willing to assume it was dead from only one hit...particularly from an element that had a chance to paralyze, anyway. His posture, however, indicated that he wasn't particularly worried.
"Are you injured?"

[Charlie should probably be dead.
The last thing she remembers is...not being on a beach, she's sure. Is she hallucinating, dreaming - is this a dying dream? No...you don't feel pain in dreams. She can still feel the myriad lacerations all over her body, the injuries to her fingernails from trying to dig her way to safety. The ragged areas in her bloodied clothing, letting sand press against bruises and scrapes and cuts. So many of them. The stabbing feeling in her ribcage, the headache, all the lingering little pains...
She really shouldn't be alive.
And all she can do now is lie on the beach, not quite sure if she can move... can she move? Her heart's still beating, she's still breathing. Should she move, though, that's another question altogether. She probably shouldn't, but if she actually wants to find someone and get help, she doesn't have a choice. Without the adrenaline from earlier, though, it's going to be difficult. Without anything to support herself on, it's going to be very difficult. The sand's too soft, too yielding...
But she doesn't have a choice. If she can't stand, she can crawl, can't she?
She can. It's a slow crawl, with frequent pauses for her to catch her breath (and because everything hurts), but she does it. Hopefully she can find someone; she's pretty sure she can't fix this level of damage on her own.]

[So today, Charlie has escaped death in the oddest possible way. Right after being trapped one last time, she woke up on a strange, bloody beach, far from where she should be, an impossible thing...
And now there is a land shark of all things quickly making its existence known.
Charlie is in no way a skilled combatant, but she manages to kick and punch at it. After successfully, if unintentionally, punching it in the snout to assert dominance, she does what any sane normie would: she runs for it.
So that means there's one (1) freaked-out teenager running your way, and there might be a fin poking out of the sand behind her. Fun times?]

Either way, though, it's obvious she needs help. Help he can actually provide...it's a nice feeling, thinking on how the most frustrating gap in his abilities is finally gone. Blue flame flickers over his mask as he switches to the appropriate Persona, not even bothering to ask how badly she's hurt. If she can't even stand, she needs more than one of his healing drinks.]
Kushinada-Hime!
[The Persona appears behind him in a burst of blue fire as intricate patterns of light surround both him and Charlie. It's not a guaranteed full heal, but it's enough to recover moderate injuries and reduce severe ones to something more manageable.]

It wasn't unusual for him to be patrolling along a beachside, after all he'd lost count of how many battles took place near Angel Grove Lake or the nearby coastline. Hell, he was used to having his zords rise out of water, so nothing new there. But what was new was the oversized shark fin that seemed to be stalking people on the beach. But...
"That fin looks familiar."
Standing up, Tommy (in his civilian look) approached the edge of the boardwalk near the beach, and glared.
Someone gave Slippery Shark a new lease on life.
Now who else would be on the beach when Tommy looked like he was about to engage a sharkfin cutting through the water?

Thankfully, Dib's used to being left to his own sleuthing devices, so he doesn't seem too put off by scouting along the beach alone. Until he sees a fin pop up through the sand, that is.
For a second, he just stands there, peering at it suspiciously and monologuing to himself. Maintaining the status quo and all that. "Huh. It could be a mirage - it's close enough to the water - or just a trick of the light in general?"
And then the landshark pops up to try and take a nice chunk out of him. His reaction time lags for just a second before he yelps and scrambles back, outrunning it just long enough to worm his way up a tree because , of course, he didn't have anything defensive on him. So he's left to cling to a branch for dear life, hoping it either loses interest or someone else distracts it.

But if danger ever prevented the progression of science, nothing would ever get done! Keeping wary of further sand-fins and maintaining a cautious (wide) berth from the waterline until he comes up to the cliffs.
"Well! If there's anything I learned from Crop Circles Magazine, it's that cliff faces are hotspots for mysterious outcroppings!"
He stuffs quite a few of those crystals in his pockets for later studies before managing to get two bottle crabs viciously pinching down on his hand and not letting go. He nearly falls off the cliff before he can pry them loose and drop-kick them into the ocean.
Of course, he doesn't keep track of time and just barely manages to crawl into a little nook as the tide comes in, looking miserable as ocean mist makes his hair spike droop a little bit.

Or will be, after a flash of blue light deposits a rapier in his hand. The shark doesn't seem to have noticed him yet, or perhaps it just thinks Dib is the easier prey, even with the log he's climbed onto too large and hefty to bite through.
Izunia sighs, seeming very put-upon, and clicks his tongue in the direction of the circling fin, before conjuring a set of glowing swords that whizz through the air almost too quick to see before they impale the sand and vanish. "Come now - 'pick on someone your own size,' isn't that the line?"
The shark makes a fairly horrifying shriek of a noise, not dead yet from the brief magical assault, and adjusts its focus to its attacker.

[There's a very cheery-looking blond girl sitting on top of an unconscious landshark. There are several more surrounding her, shifting slightly and thrashing as if asleep. Some of them look even worse off, coughing and choking as if poisoned in some way. She has a small knife in her hands, and is looking down at the landshark below her.]

[Besides her, a strange mushroom creature bounces up and down. It speaks with a surprisingly cheerful tone.]
I guess! But you can handle them, right, Cori? [The girl nods.]
Probably...I can't put another large group to sleep like this for a while, though, so we'd probably be better off waiting for them to succumb naturally. [She leans back on her seat, looking over at the bloody sea.] Sharks can't breathe if they can't move, I've heard. Seems true for these as well.

[As Makoto finds himself in a new world, he wishes he could say he's used to it by now. With all the Palaces they've been to in the Metaverse, not to mention the distorted version of Tokyo that Yaldabaoth created, it wouldn't be shocking to discover that he is growing immune to the feeling, of walking from one world into another. Logically speaking, if places like Mementos and the Metaverse exist, it shouldn't be out of the question that there are others as well, worlds that exist beyond rather than within.
Even that is just a guess at best; after all, hadn't they taken care of that world of distortions? Hadn't they won? So then why...?
The sky begins to cloud over and what before had been a faint reddish hue starts to darken before his eyes, looking ever more and more like blood; Makoto is instantly reminded of the red rain that fell in Shibuya when Mementos bled through into the real world, and he cannot help but feel anxious now. At least back there, he had his teammates, his friends to look to for comfort, even as they faded from the peoples' memories. What would become of him if he were to disappear here?
And yet, he cannot look away from that red ocean, ominous in its hue. He starts to walk toward it, his feet shuffling through the sand until he's standing at the water's edge. There's a faint buzzing in his head that, were he to focus on it, is his Persona calling out to him, trying to shake him from his trace.
But the anxiety in his chest is too strong, and he has to know...he has to know. He bends down and starts to reach a hand out toward the water...]

[Usually, it's Makoto who does the sneaking, kind of a requirement when one is a phantom thief. But in the sand, just beneath the surface, something is stalking him. At first he thought it was just the trick of the sun shining off the sand, but after watching it for a moment, it noticeably shifted.
He continues to walk along the beach, looking for clues or food -- anything that will either help him get back home or sustain himself until that first thing happens. But he keeps an eye on the hidden creature, and when a large shark rises up a moment later, he's ready for it.
Swiftly he shifts his weight, bringing his arm around in an arc and landing a punch square on the landshark's nose.]
Take that!
[Startled by the attack, the shark slides back, its movements wobbly at first from the blow, before disappearing in the sand and swimming away. Glinting in the sand, Makoto finds a pair of bright white shark teeth.]
...well, I can't eat these.
[He sighs and slips them into his pocket. Hopefully he'll find someone to trade them with later...]

[The speaker is a man somewhere in his thirties, almost ridiculously tall and thin with wavy red hair, wearing an outfit that makes him look like he's out of one of those Victorian period manga except for the clash of a navy blue scarf around his neck. He's even got an appropriate feathered hat (not the one Prompto shot earlier) with a crow's skull attached at the base of the feathered plume.

[Maybe you see a pale, androgynous youth walking along the beach, seemingly ignorant of the landshark fin coming up behind him in the sand. He keeps moving, pausing to glance at something near his feet now and then. The shark draws closer, in no hurry to take down such easy prey. The boy stops again, bends down to pick up something from the sand, and the shark finally moves to attack, lunging at his unprotected back.
Faster than should be humanly possible, the boy whirls, leaps back several feet, and raises his arms. An ethereal bow of energy appears in his hands and he fires a glowing arrow from it, the shot punching through the shark's open mouth and out the back of its head. It drops to the shoreline at his feet, thrashing in its death throes. When it doesn't vanish after death, he crouches down, drawing a dagger from his boot.]
Wonder if it's edible....

[Or maybe you see him later on the rocks as the tide is coming in. He's gathering crystals and poking at a few of the crabs, fascinated by one in particular with a cobalt glass bottle-shell.]
I've heard of beer can chicken, but bottled crab is new.
[He prods the crab with a little twig of driftwood, chuckling as the creature pinches the stick and hangs from it stubbornly.]

A flash of Nevercold. A sharp smile. The shark thrashes back, a long, searing line on its side. It looks like it burns, yet there is no fire. The lady, meanwhile, simply grins, a strange, short urumi in one hand. The other end of her umbrella is neatly tucked into her jacket.
She spots you, and cracks her blade like a whip.]
